The New Director

The trades tell us:

Director Rob Schrab, who on the TV side has helmed Community, Parks And Recreation and The Mindy Project, will make his feature directorial debut on Warner Bros’ The LEGO Movie Sequel. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed the first pic, are writing and will produce the sequel together with Dan Lin and Roy Lee. ....

Hey, animation directors (Frank Tashlin, Brad Bird, Rob Minkoff) swing over to live action. So it's only fair and right that live action directors return the favor in the opposite direction.

(And maybe LEGO Movie II will get an Oscar nomination.)

In Schrab's defense, he DID write, draw and create the comic book, Scud: The Disposable Assassin (1994 to 1998, and 2008).

Anyone who has ever read it knows the HUGE influence that early WB animation has had on him in everything from jokes to action sequences to panel layouts (which tended to look A LOT like storyboards).

I don't think he needs defending. He seems as good a choice for LEGO II as anyone.

My bad. I just loved that comic so much as a kid, and now to see him teaming up with Miller & Lord...

Well, I guess my giddiness trumped my reading comprehension. :P
